Norwegian innovation can save lives in Ukraine – SAFEgaiters® provide soldiers and personnel with improved respiratory protection.
Thanks to acquisitions through the Norwegian Government´s Nansen Program, the Norwegian MedTech company Watchbird AS will deliver a large number of SAFEgaiter® to Ukrainian forces.
More than 25 military and civilian frontline and emergency units in Ukraine have now received SAFEgaiters for testing and evaluation. The need for respiratory protection remains urgent, and we’re working to scale up local production in Ukraine to meet this demand.
Ukrainian National Guard Brigade 3018 – Rubizh shares frontline feedback on SAFEgaiter, confirming its value in trench conditions. A powerful testament to the product’s relevance, impact, and the growing need for expanded support.
Watchbird partners with former Bergen Fire Chief Leif Linde to begin SAFEgaiter testing in the fire and rescue sector leveraging his 40+ years of frontline and leadership experience to ensure use and relevance, safety, and innovation of SAFEgaiter for first responders.

The Norwegian Ministry of Defence has awarded Watchbird AS a grant of 12,4 MNOK to accelerate the research and development of its next-generation sensor system for chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) threat detection. The funding is part of the government’s 2025 initiative to strengthen national defence technology capabilities and is allocated under the program; Support for the development of Norwegian Defence Technology.
Watchbird joined Free Ukraine on its 74th aid mission, donating vehicles, gear, and 900 SAFEgaiter facemasks for frontline testing by Ukrainian forces, including elite brigades and medics. A proud step in advancing Norwegian dual-use military tech.
From Tampa to D.C., the 2025 NADIC Roadshow connected Watchbird to key defence hubs to build bridges, share insights, and grow our U.S. network. Together with 8 fellow Norwegian defense innovators and under the guidance of NADIC we’ve taken important first steps toward our U.S. market entry.
